Let me introduce myself

My name is Liz Lucido and I am going to be your child’s Infant Swimming Resource Instructor helping your child learn necessary aquatic survival skills, establishing a foundation for swimming and a knowledge of water they’ll use for the rest of their lives.

I graduated in 2013, from the University of Utah (GO UTES!) receiving my Bachelors in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training and a minor in Nutrition. In January of 2017, my husband and I moved to Oahu for his work and one very short month later I gave birth to our first son. We lived in Kailua and were very fortunate to live just a few blocks from Kalama Beach park and had a pool at the house we were renting — the best of both worlds!

But it wasn’t long after starting our family that my husband and I realized the dangers that it brought to be surrounded by water.

I came across ISR and I knew instantly that this is what we needed to do for our son. It was not only the earliest aged-based program I could find but taught actual survival skills needed for the water. ISR was not a want but a NEED for our family as far as we, the parents were concerned. I found Audrey Harrer who was teaching in Kailua at the time and our son started his ISR lessons at 7 months old becoming fully trained in the roll-back to float in just 8 weeks. We didn’t stop there, he has basically continued lessons ever since. He is 6 now and I can honestly say without any traditional swimming lessons he can float and swim better than most adults including myself.

Ever since I found ISR I have been a huge advocate. I tell everyone I know about the program: what it has done for our son, the respect for water he has and the extra security & peace of mind it has given us as parents. The ISR mission statement is, “Not One More Child Drowns” and while I am very fortunate to not personally have been impacted in my life with a child drowning I am deeply and emotionally invested in helping make sure this program and mission is spread to as many families and children as possible.

We moved to California in the spring of 2019 — where we currently reside in Orange County. We added two more kids to our family since then and having them skilled in ISR was an absolute must. Because ISR was so beneficial to our family I decided to take it one step further and in the thick of unprecedented times I pursued a career as a Certified Infant Swimming Resource Instructor. Helping my kids and all kids live a full, healthy and successful life is hands down my number one goal. I guarantee this program will impact your child and your entire family just as it has done for ours. Traditional Lines of Defense

ISR believes pool fences, supervision, and pool alarms are important parts of a necessary multi-layered approach to drowning prevention.

Children are curious, capable, and have an uncanny ability to overcome obstacles like pool fences; at ISR we take that ability and teach them skills to potentially save themselves if they find themselves in the water alone.

Self Rescue

Traditional Lines of Defense

Generally speaking, children ages 6 months to 1 year learn the ISR Self-Rescue® skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives. Older, more mobile children will learn the full ISR Self-Rescue® sequence of swimming until they need air, rotating onto the back to float, then rolling back over to continue swimming. ISR students are taught to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline

I can’t say enough good things about Liz and the ISR program. I started my son late at age 3 years old. Liz Lucido is absolutely amazing! I knew my daughter was ready and a good candidate for ISR and she is excelling with Aunty Liz. My son on the other hand has been in traditional swim lessons for almost a year and very sensitive, so when Liz suggested I have him in ISR a week into my daughter’s lessons, I was apprehensive. My son has been difficult (to say the least) and Liz has been patient, understanding and still effective in ISR with BOTH of my children. Both of my children now enjoy (loosely haha - it’s only week 3 after all!) swimming with Aunty Liz and are learning skills that I will never be able to thank her enough for!
